Why 11? Guess I wanted these songs in a list.
The problem is that "rock music" was never a genre of music, but term of the audience for convenience. Rock(that is how would call) was for young rebels. As these rebels grew up, they accepted the establishment(maybe because they had fewer reasons to attack it).
Musical style that arose in the U.S. in the mid-1950s and became the dominant form of popular music in the world. Though rock has used a wide variety of instruments, its basic elements are one or several vocalists, heavily amplified electric guitars(including bass, rhythm, and lead), and drums. It began as a simple style, relying on heavy, dance-oriented rhythms, uncomplicated melodies and harmonies, and lyrics sympathetic to its teenage audiences concerns — young love, the stresses of adolescence, and automobiles. Its roots lay principally in rhythm and blues(R&B) and country music.(As per Britanica Encyclopedia).
wait a minute.just when you think I am going to write about the songs, this guy comes up with another genre called classic rock.
Classic rock was originally conceived as a radio station programming format which evolved from the album oriented rock(AOR) format in the early-1980s. In the United States, this rock music format now features a large but limited playlist of songs ranging from the early 1960s through most of the 1980s with more emphasis on the earlier hits by artists associated with the loosely-defined "classic rock era". as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_rock (Seriously when I was in college I thought classic rock meant rock music played by some old people!)
Now the songs.
1.Stairway to Heaven
Led Zeppelin
November 8, 1971
Well I wasnt born then.got to hear it 18 years later. Maybe the greatest song ever written.
Some say the poets were in a trance when it was written. Dont even bother. Never will a song be written again like this. As I write it may be breaking another record somewhere!
And it makes me wonder.
- Hotel California
Eagles
1977
A song loaded with metaphors. Lot written about playing it forward/backward & what not.
Love the track. Original one is a bit slow rockish.
Leads in this song are mind blowing. The solos by Joe Walsh & Don Felder worth a million bucks.
Reunion version is amazing.

- Hush
Deep Purple
1968
The groups first release as Deep Purple, was the single "Hush." Written by American country artist Joe South for Billy Joe Royal. I have never heard that version. Fell in love with this song in one of the live renditions by Deep Purple.
- Blowin in the Wind
Bob Dylan
1963
Folksy but lyrics are very very good. Protest in the right times!
- American Pie
Don Mc Lean
1971
For years the lyrics have been subject to scrutiny as people search for the songs real meaning(just take Dons word for it!). The search continues today on the Internet and in newspapers and magazines worldwide. All interpretations start on the premise that Don McLean never spoke about the meaning /lyrics. In fact, Don McLean has spent his entire adult life doing little else but talk about this song!
- Sultans of Swing
Dire Straits
1978
Released as a single. Love the live version with Clapton accompanying the band.
7.Tommy
the who
1969
This rock opera - for me personally the whole album is one song. One is entitled to such opinions.
- Time
Pink Floyd
1973.
If this is the Dark side of the moon. I would give an arm and a leg to find out what the bright side of the moon has in store. Floyd at its best. SuggestionNEVER BUY A BEST OF FLOYD CD - IT IS BLASPHEMY-U WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MISSED-PL BUY THE FULL ALBUM
9. Eruption
Van Halen
1978
In this small rendition Van Halen amply demonstrate their drive, showmanship, and musicianship.
A classic album by Van Halen.
Also like the song Runnin with the Devil in the same album. 5150 is a classic if you havent heard it. Listen to it.
- Sunshine of your love
Cream
1967
Cream - the cream in the 3 divisions come together albeit for a brief period of time in rock history and play with no commercial compulsion. With the talents of Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce combined, the results could only be good.
11.One
Metallica
A brilliant song by Metallica before they gave into commercial demands of music making and churning out music. One, Nothing else matters.
Had a tough time after I wrote this. Needed to have an other #11 here.
Alternate #11 "(I Cant Get No) Satisfaction
Rolling Stones
1965
As per the title of the song, had to re write this review.
Well with great difficulty I put this list together. One can say I missed out the Doors, Scorpions, Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster cult - all those fans do forgive me - this is my list.
Before I sign off check out this song Spanish Train by Chris De Burgh.
