It’s a Ram Gopal Varma film.Undoubtedly he is the most versatile director in the bollywood industry & I think this has to be the best horror film made by his factory product company.Infact I should say this is the best Bollywood horror film I have ever seen.
VAASTU SHASTRA:-What’s the meaning of that?
Shastra of the Vaastu.Science of the house.So what is the shastra of this house? It’s simple the house is haunted.It’s a haunted mansion.If the house is already haunted then no matter what do you do to protect yourself from those scary ghosts , they are surely gonna kill you.That’s the logic behind the title of the movie & I think title is well justified.(Note that it’s a house that is haunted & not the massive unsightly TREE in the surroundings of the house/mansion.)
Story:-It’s simple...
1] Virag(Chakrawarthy) a writer by profession needs to complete his assignment hence he gets shifted with his family members wife Jhilmil a physician(Sushmita) & son Rohan(Ahsaas Channa) to Shanti Kutir at the outskirts of Pune for peace.Jhilmil’s younger sister also joins them.
2]But the house already has a family of ghosts living in it.
3]Somedays pass, Rohan makes friendship with the two little kids(as
only he can see them) from the ghost family & start doing some strange things
like he clibms on a massive unsightly tree with the help of a ladder to talk to the ghost kids.
4]The parents gets frightened by this thing & they keep a maid to look after him(Rohan).
5]But the maid is always bussy in stealing the little things in the house rather taking care of Rohan.Rohan notices that she is a workshy maid.
6]The maid threatens Rohan that if he tells the same to his parents then she will kill him.But bold Rohan still tells the same to the parents but they refuse to accept it.
4]Then, the maid gets killed by the Rohan’s ghost friend.(The camera effects & 3d camera view used to show the rolling of the ball over the ground is simply superb.This ball plays vital role in killing of the maid.)
5]Later in the inquiry by police for the killing of the maid, Rohan’s parents understand that they made a big mistake by not trusting him(Rohan).
6]Now, the real story starts....the ghost kids are nomore friends of Rohan & infact they were never friends of him....The ghost family now starts to terrify all the members in the house.This time the target is Jhilmil’s young sister.....
7]The sister understand that there is something wrong with the house when her boyfriend drops her near the house after completing their late night party flick.Explanation...
8]When they are on the way to her home young sister dreams that ghosts are terrifying & scaring her while she is on the way to her home alone after her boyfriend drops her. But when this happens in reality the young sister just gets shocked.....(Did you understand that? I am a bit poor in grammar.)This is truly comes as shocking scene to all of us.You must experience this thrill in theatre.
9]Later...the young sister invites her boyfriend to her home for love making as all the remaining family members have gone out to watch a cartoon film.
10]Now, how the ghosts kill the young sister that is something you must watch in theatres.
11]Meanwhile...a beggar(Rajpal Yadav) who always roams around the haunting house tells Jhilmil that how the ghosts killed her sister....
12]Meanwhile....Police inspector(Sayaji Shinde) puts two guards outside the home for the protection of the family to get rid of the shock.......
13]...While Shusmita is bussy in doing her work at hospital, the ghosts target her husband....when she comes back home she notices that something wrong is happening in the house.....she finds her husband is being killed by the ghosts...& eventually, he gets killed & the two guards also get killed....
14]While all this happening , Sushmita escapes from the house with his child Rohan.....But all the died members(sister, boyfriend, husband) who are also now the ghosts obstruct her.....due to that while escaping, her car crashes into the massive tree......but she manages to save herself & Rohan..
15]Luckily car gets blasted in which the massive tree gets demolished(but its stem remains).Eventually , the massive tree comes out as a symbol of death for the ghosts by virtu of this they all get killed due to its destruction(those upto which tree gets destroyed/others are still alive since stem of tree is yet not destroyed completely)...
Climax.....(Readers who want to enjoy the thrill of this movie should not read further)
Both Sushmita & rohan are admitted to the hospital....After some time Sushmita(Jhilmil) comes out of unconsciousness & hug her child Rohan...Now, camera revolves around Rohan’s face & & &....shock! The evil has already found the place in Rohan’s soul...Entry of the Evil into Rohan’s body.......................................................................
....this is probably the best climax I have ever seen in a Bollywood movie in which The Evil/The Ghost is beyond the death...Ghost remains immortal...wow.......Let the Will Of Ghost Prevail....
Performance:-
Ahssas:-The best performance is given by the little child Rohan...His timing of delivering the dialogues is amazing.....His low sounding speeches just wonder/astonish you........Believe me, all the people in the theatre were literally clapping for him non-stop........
Sushmita:-Very natural acting by her......I liked her face expressions..She is definitely improving by leaps & bounds.........
Chakrawarthy:-No complaints against him...Does what is expected from
him...
Rajpal Yadav:-Don’t forget to see him when he gets killed....He is cooool..
Rasika Joshi:-As a maid she has acted superbly...enjoy her acting.....
Cinematography:-Excellent...no complaints........scary scenes are well captured by Sachin K. Krishn.......Movie does scare you........
Sond Effects/Recording:-
As expected Dolby EX 8.1 track recording....what more you want ?...But some gun shot sound effects at the end of each scene may upset you especially in the first half........but that is very minor mistake, forget it......
The Big Plus:-No Tantriks, Mantriks...No holy water...No OM’s...No Cross’s
This is real big plus......Like in every bollywood horror film they include mantras, tantras etc.etc....forget all those ’Ghita-Pita’ masalas......this is a realistic Ghost......This is 2004 Ghost proclaiming ’I am beyond the death’...
Note:-Viewers who like Horror films don’t give this a miss......watch the astonishing & astounding acting by the little kid.......& enjoy the Climax of the movie....& Let The Will Of Ghost Prevail......
