It is an undeniable fact that a very lesser rate of movies are remade from Hindi to Tamil due to the reason that Bollywood prevalently has story lines that are relatively inferior in many ways. On comparing the depth of emotions, the music, screenplay and the Directorial touch between Bollywood & Gollywood, this would be quite evident ! Among such few remakes, a very few really succeed commercially. One such successful remake, which surely every one would agree with me, is our Munnabhai MBBS … Err… Vasoolraja MBBS !
It would be a wholesome waste to go into the depth of the story of this successful movie. So, why don’t I just share a few words about my humble opinion on this film ?
THE LET-DOWN
Well, while I liked almost everything about this sentimental + entertaining movie, the only let down to this film to be frank would be its music by Bharadwaaj. The background music at many scenes literally sinks. In places where you expect it to be highly enthusiastic, you would find a heavily linked sequence of background music, which prevents the audience from thoroughly enjoying the real aim of the Director. But Bharadwaaj has comparatively succeeded in sentimental scenes like Kaakaa Radhakrishnan gradually approaching the carom board, the cancer patient’s sequences etc. As for the entertaining side of the coin, Bharadwaaj needs to improvise !
Speaking about music by Bharadwaaj again, the songs are although not Oho kind, you are sure to basically like them. “Pathukkulae Number Onnu…..” is pretty good due to the music, decent lyrics & the beautiful picturization. “Alwarpetta Andava….” is yet another nice one ‘cause it is more dominantly Gaana kind. Since this song sequence has nice uniform kind of dance movements and suddenly takes a twist to rock and then classical kinds, it is pretty pleasing. As for “Seena Thaanaa ..…” I really don’t know what to say ‘cause it is already a mega-hit although I may have a difference in opinion about this song. This for sure is a pakka commercial addition to the film & the belly-dancer has gained herself a fame with her mere commercial masala choreography ! Overall, the songs are good but still a few lack in something, which turns out to be a let down to this good movie as I said !
BEHIND THE SUCCESS
Should I say Charan ? But how can I ‘cause this is an absolute remake ! So, truly there is no Charan’s touch found anywhere in the film. Still he gets an additional feather to his cap with the success of this entertainer.
Or Should I mention here about the born talented Kamal ? To an extent – YES ! Kamal + Crazy Mohan combination always works. It is absolutely their fusion which brings in an instant laughter. Like ‘Michael, Madana….’, Vasool has for sure succeeded as a great entertainer with this combo ! A few dialogues are though ancient, the way Kamal has worked to present them, makes us get a feeling that they are all brand-new comedies … As always, Hats Off to you Kamal Jee + Crazy Jee !
There are also a whole lot of other characters that have contributed their best to the success of this gr8 film.
The first among them is Prakash Raj, as the Dean & Sneha’s Dad. As invariably, Prakash Raj’s acting easily gets an applause & the dialogue delivery between Crazy Mohan and Prakash Raj is just great at so many places ! Almost everywhere I could hear “How do I know ?” … hee hee hee !!
Then worth a mention is our ‘Smiling Beauty’ Sneha. She is not only beautiful, but she is graceful as well in almost every frame ! Her dialogue delivery has improved a lot and her situational accentuation in most of the scenes perfectly fit into the sequence. Her costumes and make-up have been adequately taken care of and all these makes her an added charm to this successful movie !
The guy who suffers from Cancer (sorry, I do not know his name) easily gets our applause ! He has rendered a very natural acting although his appearance is for a very short-while. The Director has succeeded in making us gloomy for his decease.
Should I say about the performance of the Senior Artist Kaakaa Radhakrishnan? Almost every scene in which he appears is nice & sentimental and specially the scene in which he slowly approaches the carom board, wow…! Its worth watching it again & again & again &…. Oh, lemeee stop here !
Prabhu’s Fans, please forgive me…. All of you know what his role here is ! So, I am just escaping from passing on my (adverse) remarks about his role in this movie.
FINALE
In general, Vasoolraja is certainly a great entertainer and a sentimental movie and is surely worth a watch ! The dialogues by Crazy Mohan play the key role in making this film a grand success. The characterizations and the new concept of hug-therapy are assuredly appreciable. This fresh blend of sentiment, romance, comedy + violence has no doubt hit the box-office …. Don’t miss it !!
