Excess billing, sudden plan changes

I have been using Vodafone since last year, after migrating from Airtel. I had migrated from Airtel because they were cheating me on 3G data plans and were not able to provide satisfactory answers when I had caught them.


My initial few months with Vodafone were good as I was not travelling and network coverage was also good within the city. However, I faced first problem when I went out of Bangalore this year. When I returned, I received a bill that seemed wrong to me.


To confuse the customers, they had broken the roaming charges into 2 parts. When I asked for explanation, they said one component is their charge and the other component is roaming partner charges. When I looked closely, I realized that their so-called Roaming Partner is Vodafone only(but they have added UP, Delhi, etc. to extract charges from the customer). They have such unethical billing practices to jack up the bills. Let me tell you that while I was in roaming on Vodafone network, Airtel was advertising "free roaming" and I got benefit of that on my wife’s phone.


Their normal customer service is of no use as they send copied text from some word document, without even understanding the problem. I wrote to Nodal Officer to get an(unsatisfactory) answer. I didn’t fight it further as I wasn’t well those days.


Next, I suddenly received an SMS(few days ago) informing me that my billing plan has been changed to a plan with higher fixed rental. I was shocked because I had never asked for plan change. When I called up customer care, I received the same "foolish" reply thanking me for being their customer, and blowing their own trumpet for being customer friendly company(but not answering my main question).


I again turned to Nodal Officer to know why plan was changed without my consent or prior information. The Nodal officer was at a loss of words but assured me to revert to old plan.


I am again planning to migrate to another service provider as I feel cheated by Vodafone.
