America is this, America is that, there is freedom of speech in America etc etc. This is the most commonest thing I hear about America. If so, then why is it that the same Americans cannot take criticism for their unjustified action called War on Iraq. What the Government led by the despotic Bush says however, is that it is a process to restore democracy in Iraq. Ofcourse, the coalition states that they are gonna take care not to hurt the civilians. Ha ha ha ha . In a war, how do u do that? Then comes a statement, that some of the citizens were pro their leader( shouldn’t they be?), hence they were killed.
But we are giving them humanitarian aid na? this gets funnier, doesn’t it. First you maim them, and then give them crutches. Wow, the US is so generous what? Unbelievable what you can do, and say and get away with it when u r a superpower.
And who is America to take a stance on another country’s state of affairs. Why doesn’t it take a stance for instance on elimination of terrorists. The same guys who wiped out WTC for instance. They wont do that pals. Cause if they do, who will buy their weapons huh? Take for instance Pakistan. Does Bush take any action there? NO! Why? Hey they are his arsenal buyers. He does not attack Pakistan. Instead, he pounds an already battered country called Afghanistan. And where is the reconstruction happening huh?
And hey do you know something. Through Satellite pictures they are able to track Saddam, but not Bin Laden. Who is Bin Laden you’d say. Oh he’s a nobody, with no oil in his background. He is just an itty bitty terrorist who did nothing but damage a couple of towers. Big deal huh? So US is targeting a country which apparently has chemical weapons( had them in Gulf war one too), but doesn’t use them.
The many people I know who have been to Iraq, claim that it is much better managed and more secular than Kuwait or Saudi( fundamentalists these) could ever hope to be. In fact when Iraq invaded Kuwait for the first time, I am told that the common folk were for the move. But the Big Bully US and its unit of tame dogs, had to make the move. To protect the Oil. I wonder if they’d have taken the same stance, had Iraq attacked Bangladesh or the like. Nah! Nothing there to invest in.
Just wanted to add an excerpt of an interview I read that would perhaps give you a clearer idea . This was by a visitor to Iraq “ Union Minister of State for External affairs – Eduardo Faleiro.
“I was deeply impressed by what the president had been able to achieve for his country. One of the things that struck me most was the secular character of Iraq. It was and continues to be extraordinary. I visited a few churches, a gurdwara and a temple. The spirit of secularism is alive and thriving in Iraq.
Incidentally, Tariq Aziz(foreign minister and now deputy prime minister) is a Christian. The prosperous Christian community in Iraq told me that they were comparatively better off than their Muslim brethren. And what they said next was fantastic! They said Saddam Hussein was their protector!
This was reiterated when I went to Iraq two months ago. They said they were greatly afraid of this war because if Saddam Hussein goes fundamentalists would take over and they would be in deep trouble. They said the president and his Baath Party are for the people.
They also pointed out that apart from oil, the president developed agriculture and other sources of revenue. Then health and education, including study abroad, is free for all Iraqis. Even two months ago, when the war clouds made Iraq cash-strapped, the government heavily subsidised food and made it practically free. Other basic needs like garments are practically free.
Saddam Husseins mistake was that he wanted to make his country self-reliant, not merely to have the paraphernalia of independence. But that does not suit the US and its allies, the new imperialists. They continue in their desire to browbeat their erstwhile colonies and make their economies at their beck and call.
In fact I would agree with a lot of people, that it is now US who is acting like a Terrorist nation. Who have just gone ahead, broken the United Nations concept, treaded on international law, and has just openly said – Might is Right’ It is the worst thing any President has done.
And if it were the right thing, why are there so many Nations who are protesting it? Why are so many American’s protesting it? Cause everyone knows that this is an unjust war.
The US Government has just set a dangerous precedence. It has just told the world, that hey if you do not feel right about a country, just go ahead attack it. Get yourself an ally, give the operation a nice sounding name, justify that you are doing it for the good of their people, and Voila you are in the clear. And you can do so if you have the power.
Shame on the Bullies of the world!
