Nothing 'Yaadgaar' about it.

To,

Mr.Subash Ghai,

Director, Mukta Arts.

Subject: An appeal after the experience of yaadein

Dear Ghai,

Yaadein (“Memories”) was one of your most awaited, anticipated, mega blockbuster release of the year. With a stunning star-cast of Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Jackie, I was convinced that you would turn out a good movie like you usually manage to do. Unfortunately ’this story of a indian home 2001’ is no blockbuster, but managed to block and bust my brains at regular intervals.

The storyline is devoid of sense or sensibility. It is dumb and dumber than most of the films to have come. You of course have been really ‘inspired’ by Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, and some other melodramatic movies. While your basic story of a man trying to cope up with his three daughters is commendable, however it just fails in execution. A father trying to be friends with his three daughters (Newcomer 1, New comer 2 and Kareena Kapoor as Isha) is not understandable, when the same father manages to be the best friend of his neighbour’s Son ( Hrithik Roshan as Ronit). Of course, like in any other love stories, Isha and Ronit are best of friends...but not really in love. Let me tell you that your idea of the hero saving the heroine from crocodiles is a ridicule on filmmaking...maybe you could have taken a look at ‘Jungle’ for inspiration. I for once don’t understand, on such a big island, the heroine had nowhere to run, except within the vicinity of the crocodile(s). Oh yes, after the life saving incident, hero and heroine had to fall in love!

Next, as expected, the hero’s status is much higher than the middle class heroine family, have another plans. Of course the father and three daughters manage to live in a palace-like house...and they too think it’s a small house...period! Obviously, people in love don’t the right things going on for them. Add to that some absolute crap business angle, an American born confused Indian girl who expectedly has a heart change at the end, and an absolutely stupid and comic climax, you make a perfect recipe for a perfect head-ache. While the two sisters marriages don’t provide any kind of support to the story, the father’s wife who appears at regular intervals in form of a angel to remind him to be friends with his daughters is completely out of place and has no relation to the proceedings!

Music was always supposed to be a highlight of your movies...what happened this time? The songs are insipid, and they least remain in your memories! Except for the title track, which drives you to nuts by repeating it throughout the movie, there are hardly any worthwhile songs. The only saving grace of your movie seems to be the scenic shots of London, though I know from enough movies that its looks beautiful! The story begins well, and disintegrates into a cacophony...ditto for the screenplay. Hrithik Roshan acts well, especially his take off from Jim Carrey was the only scene worth watching in the movie. Kareena Kapoor acts well too, but fails miserably in the emotional scenes! And your direction...well I think you would have made it out by reading this!

So, Mr.Subash Ghai, I think its about time that you stopped making movies all-together and take a retirement gracefully as Mr.Mahesh Bhatt. Its about time that you, and couple of other filmmakers like Aditya Chopra are completely banned from film making, so that some sort of sense remains in our bollywood. Another suggestion would be...please take a look at your previous 10 films...you will understand how un-memorable this movie was.

Thanking you in anticipation that you either stop making movies or do something better.

Yours truly,

A Disgusted Viewer.
