Hi.... I accidentally came across the Yamaha Fazer when I was at a yamaha dealership to buy a second hand reconditioned ’88 RX 100. Yup!
I had read about it in several magazines.. but nothing could’ve prepared me for what I saw...
alright... mechanicals first.. 125cc.. highest power in its class I think about 11 bhp or something. 4 speed gearbox, DRUM brake at front( what is Yamaha thinking) which is incidentally the biggest at a 150mm. one thing... the exhaust sounds better than the other 125s in the same segment.
Alright... the interesting part... THE LOOKs... alright people... the front is just a love it or hate it affair... some people like it... some dont... but one thing.. guys lookin for an identity and a wish to be different... heres your bike.
You should see the original fazer... it looks beautiful on it... not an exact copy... but still beautiful...
The rear lights are very Racy and designed to give a look of speed even while standing still... reminds one of the RXZ... except that owas more angular and this is more sleeker...
The only thing I dint like was the rear grab rail with the ends to tie stuff... I mean u want a good lookin rear grab rail on such a bike... not a Rajdoot kind with protusions at the ends to carry stuff...
Alright... The ride...
The dash is well designed... The speedo and tachometer numbers look real good and sporty... the controls are all good... all on the left...
When u sit on the bike... its less of a sporty stance and more of a sports tourer like seating, with the handles coming up higher than they should be. Or maybe im shorter thats why (5’ 8’’) but the seat was really comfortable...
The Ride was good... acceleration more than decent for any bike in its category... Only thing one missed was a 5th Gear..
Now the front brake is a drum and under heavy braking u could feel the need for a disc. The bite is there... but then a disc is a disc... I hope Yamaha can work on this..
or else.. my suggestion get an aftermarket fit done.
Oh yeah one reason for the twin healdlamps according to yamaha. So that if one fails, the other is there. hehe not bad. But the lights are powerful enough to light up the road properly, 25 watts each.
Average, one of the most important issues in this segment, yamaha claims a 55 to 60 kmpl, which is pretty decent, and compared to real time mileage of others, pretty good.
It has technical stuff like YTPS, Yamaha Throttle positioning System... but then every bike does nowadays.. just hoping it works...
The psuedo side scoops could have been made more sportier than the simple curves they are..
