A beast for the highway... A complete overview ..

Firstly let me tell you that this is my first ride.

I am not an expert in bikes, let me list out some of the Pros and cons.

  • Wider tyres looks cool

  • Superb design and centre of gravity so that even a kid can handle it perfectly.

  • Front sit lies low making it good for people with low height. That provides

an extra balance as the mass in concentrated more towards centre.

  • Tilt it as much low as you can while riding it wont slip offf control due to wider tyres.

I have seen a lot of people with exhausts worn on road due to cornering around bents on road.

  • The quality of mechanical parts looks promising comapared to other brands.

  • The headlights are perfectly designed so that it wont disturb people ridng in opposite dir.

  • The exhaust pipe is really short[Midship design] compared to unicorn or a pulsar.

  • Super stable at high speeds. You can feel it perfectly under control at even 95kmph.

After that still no issues if its on straight highways. I have taken it to only 108kmph.

I love riding at 85 which is quite comfortable and under control for me on highways.

Now coming to the negatives

  • The rear tyre is said to be punctured easily. Not a problem if you have good roads around like me.

  • The speedometer and dashboard looks like a toy cars one. With a smaller LCD panels.

  • The engine picks up slowly in the range upto 60kmph. After 65+ its quite ok.

May be due to the combined effect of wider tyres and Midship muffler which chokes the exhaust gases

leading to a lower pickup. This is quite irritating if you have a habit of overtaking vehicles infront .

It takes around 3-5 seconds to cover a car or bus while for bikes like karizma or pulsar it takes less than 3 secs.

  • Finally FE is the most concerned factor with many. Yes its quite low compared to  similar bikes in this range.

It ranges between 36-45 for many. For a 150CC ride its quite low as Pulsar 200NS delivers around 43kmpl,

Karizma ZMR also similar and Pulsar220 delivers 38kmpl.

  • A neutral point, which is my personal opinion is that the graphics and vinyls are going worse

A word about Mileage.

People might be wondering why people claim different values of mileage for a same bike.

In fact it depends on the tuning. One of my friends always get 45-48 kmpl and I later

discovered that his was tuned to a lower power which you can feel while riding.

But its enough if you ride single. If you are looking for mileage, go for something with

electronic fuel Injection(ZMR, Hero Glamour[86KMPL]).

FZ or FZs ??

I couldn’t find any difference between FZ & FZs in Mechanics..

FZ looks more masculine any tough. Go for the black or blue one.

Fzs looks more metrosexual, with lot of colors.

Its for you if,

  • Your riding is mostly on high speed highways.

  • You donot have a habit of overtaking on narrow roads.

  • You ride mostly on stable speed roads.

Rivals worth considering

  • Pulsar 200NS(Liquid cooled, Better FE, Power, Stylish)

  • Karizma ZMR(Electronic Fuel injection, Better FE)

  • Honda CB trigger (Costly)

  • Honda Unicorn

  • Hero CBZ extreme

About My ride

  • FZ-S Sunset red 2012 edition(regrets... )

  • 6K km done.

  • 7 Months

  • 3 services done

  • Bought for 79.8k INR

  • No issues yet except for hardshifting, which was rectified well in second service.

  • Location - Chalakkudi, Kerala
