YOU Broadband (Chennai)
OK, so I got this connection installed on the 22nd of October, in light of the FUP being implemented on my other BB connection. Just to be clear, I had no other complaints with my other ISP. Its a shame that most ISPs are implementing the FUP.
Anyway, back to YOU BB, they were all to keen on having me as customer, that the registration process was complete on the very same day. Sum paid: Rs.855(plan+tax)+ Rs.500(Ref. dep)
After the installation was complete, I had to wait for a few hours, until the modem was finally online. That was my first sign, as they next few days were a nightmare.
Frequent disconnections over the course of two days, to make things worse: this connection requires the use of dialer. There was also a problem with the modem, where it would restart intermittently and upon closer inspection, I found it to be an abused, god knows how old, Motorola modem(watch out!)
Frustrated over my initial experience, I wrote to the Nodal /Appellate authorities voicing my concern/dissatisfaction and requesting an immediate disconnection and subsequently a full refund. I mean, 3 days since Ive got the connection and Ive had such a terrible experience. Its a good thing I had my other ISP alongside, for I work from home and a stable internet connection is a must.
Starting next week, I had the opportunity of speaking to the Nodal officer and conveyed my dissatisfaction over the service. Although, the person was full of promises and requests, she also stated that a full refund wouldnt be possible, as this was prepaid connection. After further discussion, I had decided to take up a new modem and complete a month of usage, following which I would terminate the service. After all, I couldnt let 855 bucks go down the drain, could I?
With the new modem in place, I was barely given the chance to use the connection again, as it went bad on the second day. Frequent modem restarts. Went through the rigmarole of a complaint and ended up with a third(new) modem. Now that the modem was functional, there were other things to worry about.:S
Unlike any other ISP Ive used, YOU BBs service is pathetic when it comes to uptime and reliability. "Power outages" occur so often and they mostly run on the UPS battery! Ive faced downtime over "power outage" related issues, on a couple of occasions now. Each time I call in to complain, I hear a new reason."power outage", "changing ups battery", "ups not working".WTF? Are we to take this company seriously? to make matters worse, one needs to wait a min. of 20-30 mins, before he/she can use the dialer to actually connect to the internet.
I will be surrendering the connection in the fourth week of this month and Im sure you have a fairly good idea of my experience so far. They say the refundable deposit for my modem will take a month.
So, there you have it. A lesson learnt. Yes, they dont have any restrictions on their plans, AS LONG AS YOU GET TO USE THEIR CONNECTION!
For heavens sake, stick with your current ISP, if you feel they are "reliable" and if thats what you essentially need.
