Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman (born on September 10, 1972) belongs to a very respected family of Bhopal. During the Changezi Massacre, his forefathers migrated from Mashhad (Iran) via Gurdeez (Afghanistan) to India during the reign of Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish (1211-1235). In India, this family was acclaimed later on by the appellation of 'Gurdeezi Saadat' and it received many honorific titles from Mughal emperors. Many of its members are still remembered for their participation in the Independence Struggle of 1857. His great-grandfather Hakim Syed Karam Hussain was a famous physician of Tijara, Alwar (Rajasthan). He was popularly known as Ra'is-i Tijara. He was author of more than two dozen books. His grand-father, Hakim Syed Fazlur Rahman was also a writer and the leading Unani practitioner. Father, Hakim Syed Zillur Rahman has made extensive and highly significant contributions in the field of Unani Medicine. He played active role in introducing Unani System of Medicine in other parts of the world, where the system had died. His main contribution is towards the history of Unani medicine and thus considered an authority on history of Unani Medicine. Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman is a young scientist working in the field of Pharmacology. As a scholar, he has to his credit 3 published books and more than 30 research papers/articles in both national and international journals. He edited 4 magazines and contributed one important chapter in a book of Pharmacology. He had been a member of Panel of Reviewers, Indian Journal of Pharmacology during 2001. Dr. S. Ziaur Rahman has been very active academically. He has attended 8 International Conferences, 19 National Conferences and 10 Workshops/Training Programs. He organized himself one international conference. He is involved with and/or member of 16 learned educational bodies including International Brain Research Organization of Spain. Many scholars and institutions have cited his works. Noteworthy is the international recognition of his expertise in Pharmacology, when he was awarded with Servier Young Investigator Award of International Union of Pharmacology (IUPHAR) in 1997. He is the founder trustee and treasurer of Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine & Sciences, Aligarh (http://www.ibnsinaacademy.com) and an Associate Editor of its quarterly newsletter. He designed and created a site for all those persons who are interested in Pharmacovigilance, Toxicovigilance, Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring and Pharmacoepidemiology (http://www.medbeats.com.sopi). This site is also served as an official website of Society of Pharmacovigilance, India. He is a director of another authentic website for medical scientists (http://www.medbeats.com). Being a member of Board of Studies (since March 1999), Dept. of Pharmacology, J. N.
