Although everyone is sailing in different boats, canoes and ships, we share the same river of life...

"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."- Article 1,United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)

Most of us reading that would feel real secure, wouldn't you? Oh yeah, only if you were in early 1900s rather than 2011. Things have changed. People have changed. The idea behind that concept has changed. Double standards and hypocrisy have made sure that the said change is relevant enough to rock your world.

Identify the initial aspect of it....everyone being born free, hah, thats just a farce. When was the last time you felt that you were free to do anything u wanted and did not find a rule book slammed in your face. Equality is another attribute that gathers the most flak, talk about racism, money-imbalance, caste-creed, regional differences, skill, et al. When there's so much to distinguish, so much to be biased about, so much prejudice and a lot of uncertainty, where does it leave the room for equality. Inequality is a dynamic term and includes a varied list of differences of opinion.

We may go on and pride ourselves in being a part of the largest democracy and being secular at that as well, but the truth being pretty relevant that equality just doesnt do justice to our behaviour towards each other, ask yourself, when was the last time you had the faintest thought that the person serving you coffee has the same amount of rights as you do, thats the point where the core cause-effect relationship of equality jumps right out of the window. Every individual has their own way of living up their lives, what makes a difference is how much dignity is presented to them while they go about doing it.

Consider this, criminals all over the world get away with a lot of things citing injustice being done to them on humanitarian grounds. More than half a million jihaadis scattered over different places in the northern part of India, however the army, that actually protects the boundaries, have been slapped with numerous human rights violation cases. The cases state that the army has treated the so called extremists in a non-humanitarian way. Now, the question that is almost offensive here is what makes the extremists more human than the soldiers. Strange isnt it? Blame it on weak governing skills or mere hypocrisy!!

Double standards are rampant everywhere and deciphering a way to merge them and human rights is just next to impossible.

Administration has made various efforts to make sure that enough fuel is added to the ongoing fire just to make a meal out of boiling situations.

Questions pop out more then popcorn at movies do when it come to the human right situation against the extremist position. Anyway, it not for us to ponder, but to identify how much of a contribution can be made to get rid of the bias within us.

Cheers!!
