I am a big fan of Konkana Sen Sharma. To me, she is the one of the most true and extremely watchable actors of today's times. I watched "Wake Up Sid" for the 7th time this weekend and I can't have enough of Konkana (and Ranbir too... he is just perfect as Sid). And the reason that I am writing about Konkana here is that, she has not been nominated for any of the awards for WUS this year which is a huge disappointment to me.

I agree that she has done similar roles of strong-minded independent woman before but still, no other actress could have played Ayesha better than her. I just loved watching her facial expressions and attitude right from her first conversation with Sid - the way she says, "Aur kuchh baaki reh gaya hai poochhne ko" and then looks at Ranbir and then says, "Poochho". It s the tone that works magic here.

And then so many scenes are there - the househunt scene, birthday scene, interview scene, when Ranbir comes to live with her and the way she lets him in, how she realizes her love for Sid (the background iktara music and a series of events - superb direction by Ayan Mukherji), The end is a little cliche with the 'new girl in the city' (a la 'Sex and the City') and the girl waiting at the beach in the rains, but itnaa to maaf hai!

The one scene that stands out to me (I rewind it 3-4 times every time) is the one when Konkana returns from office and starts yelling at Ranbir for making a mess of her house. The way she walks, picks up things from the floor, and then says "Husband ho kya mere?" - sheer magic! And then she realizes that Sid doesn't know how to cook and hasn't eaten the whole day and says "abhi kuchh banaati hun". The anger disappears just like that and our dear Konkana transforms from "Durga" into "Annapoorna" in one second. That s today's Indian woman - modern, progressive but traditional at heart. While Ranbir gorges on the food after that, "Ajeeb dastaan hai ye" plays in the background, Konkana looks at him and smiles. And I look at Konkana and smile too. What pleasure to watch her!

There is one more scene worth mentioning. It doesn't have Konkana in it but it is superb - the scene when Sid shoots pictures of their neighbors mother-son duo. The character artist who plays the mother is amazing and so real!
