I was disappointed to see the new "Mile Sur" robbing the original master-piece of its soul. Singing is BAD in most the parts. Here is my review part by part:

Superb start with A R Rehman (with Sitar in background). I am having goosebumps - nostalgia, the love we have for the original gem! Amitabh Bachchan in front of Taj Palace - noble! The recitation part is much better than the singing part.

Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy - and there I lost my erection! why are they in so much hurry? Remember the original - this FAST came in the LAST. Anoushka Shankar is cool - specially when she finishes and looks into the camera.

Then come Vikram and Surya from Tamilnadu - (I just loved the original "namm disaiiiii... part). Vikram is there to do the "yo" thing and nothing else. Where is the classic "tag tigda tigda tigda thai.... dhitak dhitak jhin.... " after "namm disaii"? DAMN !!

Shreya (I love her voice, I am crazy about the purity and sweetness she adds to her songs) is ok here. Aishwarya and Abhishek - nothing much to say. Mahesh Babu from Hyderabad singing in an old age home - ok.

And the soul wants to return to "mile sur" when the father and son duo - Shiv Kumar Sharma and Rahul Sharma, starts playing Santoor. There is Qutub Minar in the background and there are shots of Shikara in Kashmir - SUPERB ! Rohit Bal (he was born in Kashmir) is also there.

The Punjab segment in the original was so good with tractor and fields and more "real" faces. Gurdass Maan and Juhi Chawla (I LOVE JUHI) are ok and there are glimpses of Punjab, but something is missing!

AMAR SHONAR BANGLA - Prasanjit, Shaan and Rituparna (looking much better than she does in Bollywood flicks). OK ! Durga Puja visuals could be shown here. Dr Bhupen Hazarika from Assam. He is such a senior artist. So I won't dare comment.

Shilpa Shetty - representing women empowerment in Rajasthan? Has she done anything for the cause actually? If she is there only because she owns Rajasthan Royals, DAMN !!

Shirtless Sallu with hearing-impaired kids. The quietness of their world gave me goosebumps again. Brilliant !!

The classical singer's segment is too long! The great drummer Pandit Sivamani's great segment. World-renowned violinist Dr Subramaniam, wife Kavitha Krishnamurthy and their new generation - ok. Was it Kavitha's voice in the original "mile sur" featuring Shabana Aazmi in front of Taj Mahal?

Deepika Padukone - drown her in that water. Is that Rekha Bhardwaj singing? Nothing 'connects' here. DAMN !! Priyanka Chopra - looks good but lost in her dreams, overacts a little. Is that Sunidhi Chauhan singing? Making too much effort to sound 'classical'. DAMN !! but a novel concept of girls' education.

Acclaimed sand artist Sudarshan from Orissa - cool !! Sarod Player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan passing his legacy to sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash. Good. But why did the sons have to sing? DAMN !!

Yesudas, his son and Mamooty - Ok. The Gujarati singer - I liked his singing the most in the whole composition. SUPERB and EFFORTLESS !! Atul Kulkarni and Sonali Kulkarni from Maharashtra - good. The fusion segment with the keyboard player and the drummer is good.

And then comes the best part - classical dance by the national award winning actress Shobhana (who is an acclaimed classical dancer too). Great dance sequence with Shobhana leading a group of dancers at Khajuraho(?). BRILLIANT !!

I hated the Shiamak Davar part. And they tried to make 'fusion' and brought Shobhana in. Why did they spoil the best segment? WHY? WHY? WHY?

Aamir Khan's part - I liked it. I think he is not promoting his film here (contrary to what is being written about him). I understand the cause and I liked his segment.

Sonu Nigam desperately showing off his "range". Not required here. IRRITATING !! Shahid Kapur - he he he. Is he promoting his new movie here? DAMN !!

Ranbir Kapoor, SRK (at Bandra-Worli Sea Link) are ok. And Karan Johar had to come right after SRK !! Nothing great.

Abhinav Bindra, Vijendra Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Baichung Bhutia, Boxer Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal are all good and deserve to be featured.

Our armed forces and our Tirangaa - A Big Salute !!

But in the final piece of music - every Jai He, is followed by some strange composition which completely spoiled the ending for me.

No Deepika, Aishwarya or Priyanka can ever match the smile of an ordinary Indian woman - urban or rural - building her life, participating in and contributing to the growing economy. That is the true "India Shining".
