MNP or Mobile Number Portability has become very popular and most subscribers dissatisfied with their service provider have switched to another operator.

I came across some interesting statistics about MNP. Sharing the same with you here:

Operator Port In Port Out Net Gain %

Vodafone 452880 282763 9.2

Idea 372187 221927 8.1

Airtel 502343 365258 7.4

Docomo 168294 120500 2.6

Aircel 149756 113769 1.9

Uninor 30538 24295 0.3

Tata Ind 7478 94116 -4.7

Rel CDMA 5329 125932 -6.5

BSNL 99718 228097 -6.9

Rel GSM 36989 231629 -10.7

Looks like Vodafone seems to be the favourite choice of porters

Though in terms of numbers, Airtel has the maximum Port in; It also has the maximum Port out (not surprising considering its huge base).

The worst is Reliance, which has gained little and lost more. - I am the winner, having shifted out of Reliance and to Vodafone :)

Both the CDMA operators Tata and Reliance are badly hit and the state run BSNL too has taken a big hit.

TOTALLY, 18,25,512 customers availed of porting facility, which is a clear sign that the customer has used MNP effectively to punish poor operators.

Without doubt, porting has been a success and a very customer-friendly move. MNP has given customers the power to punish operators and hopefully this will be used effectively by all consumers.

JAGO GRAHAK JAGO!!
