‘Stenly Kubrik film, directed by Steven Spielberg’ only this punch line, get me to write the review on this movie. I missed the movie when it released, but thanks to STAR MOVIES, I can watch movie three times and still continue. Stenly kubirk , one of the genius director of all time, died when he was working on this project. But, the work is completed by very own genius, Steven Spielberg. First time I seen the movie at 11’o clock at night. Movie is so disturbing that I couldn’t sleep till morning.
Story is on a robo and his ’love’ to ’mother’. Their times when science manages to create human like robo, can think, feel and react like human. The robo played by Haley Joel Osment (I think this kid missed Oscar two times, one for this movie and others, Sixth Sense.). Now for trial purpose, robo-manufacturing company handed over this robo to a couple whose son in the ’comma’due to some incurable disease. First Mother(Frances O’Connor) reluctant for this child. But here comes Spielberg screen play and finally she find him lovable, innocent her ’own’child, beautiful love story begins( I don’t talk about Rajshree prod. Kinda love) between a mother and a child. Suddenly ’Real’son recovers from the comma and dislikes her mother’s love toward such Robo. He continues to trick to throw robo out of the family. He succeeded, family decided to send back him to company. Company take decision to dismantle. But , when mother drive robo to company , her mother heart liquidize and decides to escape him in jungle. As he pre-programmed to love his mother, he realize to be real boy to get back to mother.
Learned about Pinocchio’s dream of becoming a real boy, quest begin to be ’real’boy. He meet robot gigolo Joe (jude law). Joe knows how humans regard their robots. ’’They don’t love us, ’’ he tells David. ’’They love what we do for them’’After severe disappointments he find ancient statue of ’blue ferry’in the deep sea. He start praying’please make me real boy’As years go by, battery low, he dumbed.
The climax is super. By some epidemics lives on earth perished. Aliens lend on the earth , they found everything dumb. They only get this robo in deep. As they found only representive of mankind.
Aliens tell him ’’U R ONLY REAL BOY ON THE UNIVERCE’’.Yeah......finally he get what he wishes from thousand years. He demanded for a mother , childishly. Aliens tell him, he can get mother only for 24 hours and she might not remember u. Through DNA technique and using memory from robo’s mind they ’create’mother. Robo really enjoy with the mother singing, dancing, storytelling and all that. Finally mother dies in 24 hours, Robo who cant sleep fall asleep in lap of his mothe and reach to .....WORLD OF DREAMS.
Sorry, to narrate whole story lengthily, but its a major point to watch the movie. Ends is like the opera scene in Dil Chahta Hai, where a character on heavens gate urge to spend one day with his lover. So touchy movie , so touchy story.
Camera work is excellent especially in climax. We realize why Spielberg called genius.Casting is also good, especially Jude Law performance leave a impression on your mind forever.Some scene like first diner of robo at home and scene when mother abandon him in the woods was splendid.
Overall, see the movie alone.
U definitely find yourself in Robo, at least one character in our life , for which we want to spend at least one day.///////////
