I think the movie 'Houseful' had received more hype than it was worth. Bappaditya Banerjee is an efficient fimmaker, no doubt. But his films suffer from tedium & over-indulgence, almost always. Wonderful film. It genuinely deserves to be seen and recommended. I was touched by the raw freshness that goes hand in hand with the smart script and makes the movie eminently watchable. It is really a fine film. And you have done a good job of reviewing it too. The film is now available on Sony Classics. I do not think the film will be released in theaters here in Kolkata. In the near future, one of the movie channels (Star, HBO, ZeeStudio, or Pix) might pick it up though.
Thanks for revisiting this favorite film of mine. I remember having seen it for the first time when I wasn't even supposed to see it. Then probably the titillating bits were a bigger draw. In spite of the fact that JBB is a difficult literary work, difficult to transcreate the subtleties and the nuances of the poetic novel, I would say that the director has put some genuine effort to execute the screenplay.
