I have had a similar experience with Safdarjung Hyundai Gurgaon while getting my car serviced; they r a nightmare; if they could they would take out every paise out of u and still do nothing!!!!

The service engineer checked for thermocol. There isnt any. I dont know which brand is gud. But if an a/c doesnt provide noiseless cooling then it is as good as trash

I have had similar experience with carrier a/c I bought last month. The compressor is extremely noisy. The service engineer has standard answer for my complaint that this is the normal noise that any a/c makes. I cross checked couple of a/c for noise levels and found my a/c tops the list. I think you are highly biased with carrier a/cs . I have been myself using a carrier a/c for the past 1 month and realised I have made a big mistake. the price is higher than rest of a/cs in the same league.
