Its NOT A SANTRO

Reviewed Hyundai i10
I have come across umpteen comparisons of the i10 with the Santro. Everyone seems to think this is an upgraded version of a Santro. However, once you own and drread more...

My long term experience has been a mileage of 16-18 kmpl with AC and moderate load, in peak traffic in Delhi...highways is around 20kmpl

Aww..sorry for that mate! Not sure if it'll be worth it trading in the Era for Magna as you will incur lots of depreciation but good luck! Yes Magna is really worth it for the extra features it is loaded with, but I see a lot of Era drivers around as it is quite cheaper and closer to the Santro i read more...
Right ashsinha, i10 Era has all these minor irritants which are best avoided by going for the Magna. But the 3 features you wanted are already available in the Magna so why were you looking for them as after-fitments? Could have gone for the Magna straight away. The latter has other useful additions read more...

I have been driving my i10 for the last 6 months. Initially the gear shift did feel a bit hard in the 1st/ 2nd gear, but soon it was pretty ok and butter smooth and it's still getting better as I drive more and more - it's just the run-in period that leads to the sticky feeling. This is true of all read more...

Going by the observations of a few fellows here, let's just dump all our santros, swifts, citys, i10s and other modern cars into the gutter and get back to our good old 'steel-clad' Padminis and Ambassadors, which have the 'metal' to them!! God!!

Every car is made for a specific purpose - the i10 is targeted at the city commuter and thus has a slightly taller 3rd gear for better driveability. In the city, you can keep driving the car in this gear most of the time without the need for frequent shifting.

Agree with Hanumant. You would notice that recently there are quite a few i10s on Delhi roads - they have started picking up really well now that 'Indian mindset buyers' have realised that it's a good car and even their 'neighbour has bought it'! I spot so many i10s in and around Delhi these days read more...

I see a discordance in your point enidhi...if you trust the qualities of the vehicle getting it that recognition, how can it be 'misleading'? In fact, then it is 'leading' people to but the best! Anyway - above everything, it's just advertising. Every company will try and sell its products and u read more...

Yes problem with gearshift seems to be coming up to often here. My guess is that this is due to the cable-operated gearshift and minor adjustment should do the trick. My problem is engaging 1st gear from standstill rather than 1st to 2nd. A second reason could be just that the car is new and once th read more...

Bang on review, Kat. Highlights the strengths of the i10 perfectly - and the statement about Santro lovers/ users was really well targeted!! The criticisms of i10 were objectively stated too, great! Enjoy your i10 Magna. Cheers, Rajiv

ajeya, I just saw a black i10 today...so it's there...however, it's too much maintaining a black car... salhaj, 175/60/R13 tyres should not be a problem. You may compromise a little bit on fuel efficiency but will get better grip and looks. The stock tyres do look skinny. nidhi, both the cars read more...
And if any doubt remains as to why the i10 got the COTY, pls own and drive one, and you'll come to know...
It's very very simply a convention folks, and I wonder why so much debate is going on about such a trivial matter!! It's a global convention to give COTY awards at the start of each year, to cars launched and sold in the previous year (criteria and dates are different for different awards). S read more...

Hyundai should have a 'paisa vasool' feeling seeing that their brand ambassador has managed to evoke such a positive response!! Anyway how much of a difference did you find between the Santro and the i10 Priyank?? Your ratings do not match with your praises for the car in your review. And wh read more...

yes probably you need to visit Hyundai for this. Modern cars are able to take a very wide rev range in any specific gear (from when the car is stuttering to when it begins to whine!), but the ideal RPM range (works in normal operating conditions) is from about 1500-2200 rpm.

Classic case of rivalry between i10 and Santro owners!! Anyway, in my experience, the steering of the i10 is far smoother than that of the Santro. Seating position and ergonomics are also far improved. I have driven the i10 for hundreds f km at a stretch and the drive is much less taxing than tha read more...
Yes the amount of fuel is about 4-5 litres. About headlights, I have not found them to be inadequate at all. What I suspect here is that your headlight settings were set at the lowest setting (Position 3) even when there was not much load towards the back of the car. Set them at the highest (Posi read more...

Oops!! What nightmares guys are facing with Hyundai and their i10s!! Will someone at Hyundai please take note?
