I have been in the US since 1990, did my MS, dabbled in research and decided to get back to India in 1994. After getting married, decided to go back to US in 1997 and relocated back to India in 2003. Currently I manage IT personnel for a client in the US in the financial world. I was the Founder of rec.music.indian.{classical,misc} in 1991. If you don't know what they mean, check on google. I ran the first gopher, Website etc. for Indian information. If you know someone who was on Internet/Usenet during the early 90s, chances are they will recognize my name! :) I had a chance this year to go to Australia & Thailand. From the travel that I have done over the years and noticing the trends in India and elsewhere, I am extremely disappointed in Indians paying for fashionable stuff (read: American) and not bothering about Quality. I buy quality stuff (electronics, toys etc. outside India and clothing etc. in India) from everywhere. If only Indians think about quality, we will have quality products being sold in India and not discarded stuff (from US) sold in India at MSRP. Sharing Knowledge/Experience Have been doing it since 1990. Look on google newsgroups for my name bet. 1990 and 1994. It will give you a sense of Usenet (newsgroups) and even Internet history in early 80s. Ignore the postings from Jai Maharaj. :-) Listening to Classical Music Internet/Web - Too vague but my future reviews will give you an idea. Cooking - Was co-founder/moderator of rec.food.veg.cooking in 1994. Travel - With kids, it has been difficult the past 3-4 yrs. But was able to take off to Australia/Thailand this year. Probably will see a lot of India the next few years, Europe possibly in a couple of years and possibly a shopping trip to Thailand (in my opinion, a shopping mecca of the world) again a few years from now.

All in all, a nice review and thx for the tips on restaurants on ECR. Yes, Autodrivers can rip you off in Chennai - Mumbai (Bombay if you prefer) is definitely better in that regard. But think of the fact that you have the option of stepping out of the house and into a vehicle for taking you a read more...

I forgot to mention this in my earlier comment.... Don't be impressed by lack of delete and 1 GB. It makes perfect financial sense for Google to keep your mail for a loooong time and not delete it. Go to Amazon.com and see how they use purchasing history to send a customer mails tailored to tha read more...
Keerti, Anuj - thx for ur comments. Bhaskar - neat review. I have seen the features with free email starting with Yahoo/Hotmail 7-8 yrs back. There was POP with Yahoo but when people bypassed the site, Yahoo clamped down (for good reasons), put a price on POP and I went to using Hotmail. T read more...

I was fortunate enough to be around to know the history of it. It all started with a group of folks on rec.sport.cricket getting together and presenting commentary on IRC in the early nineties (I did a few when I was in Tempe, AZ) which actually morphed into a Website (A prof. named K S Rao at NDSU read more...

I am surprised that Cockington Green was left out in your review. Going up the Telstra tower is not exactly an interesting thing like a trip up the Empire State Building but it is worth a trip. 'I did enjoy Sydney but not as much as Melbourne and Brisbane' - Exactly my view too. I wish I had more time to spend around Melbourne. Great review. cheers, Sridhar.

My recommendation for anyone who wants to see the Kangaroos and Koalas is the Koala Park in West Pennant Hills just outside Sydney. Take an all day ferry ticket, start from Circular Quay ('pronounced Qi) and use it to go to all places. That is one of the best ways (besides the excellent train read more...

Couldn't agree with you more. Had a chance to go to Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane this Indian summer and I will agree that Melbourne is by far the best city I have been to. It is amazing that the review written 3 yrs. old is still valid to this day. That is because the review was written with factors for a customer rather than the underlying technology. The reference to costs is till very valid because: 1. Indians don't buy in big volumes. Selling in volumes red read more...

Title Describes my feedback! Few more items to consider: Don't buy a laptop in India. If you are a traveller, buy it in Thailand or US. It will save you atleast 25-30% and there will be no duties. Also, go for a Gateway if you want just the hardware and can load up on software elsewhere. Del read more...
